Nine Lineages Seminar

Join us on July 17th and 18th as John Gentoshi Poliquin from the Portland Quest Center leads a weekend long seminar exploring the ancient martial lineages that make up the historical roots and foundations of our martial arts practice. Techniques and fighting strategies from each of the five lineages that we have records from will be presented, as well as the movement styles which have separated them out over time. Mr Poliquin will also delve into historical information about each lineage and what has made them unique. This promises to be a busy and exciting weekend of training!

Saturday, July 17th from 12-4 pm

Sunday, July 18th from 10-2 pm

Cost:

$50 per day / $100 for the full weekend

What to bring:

Gloves, han-bo, practice knife, and bokken

NRA Basic Pistol Course Offered June 26th

Mark your calendars – on Saturday, June 26th, the Presque Isle Quest Center will offer an NRA Basic Pistol Course.

The NRA Basic Pistol course is a well known, nationally recognized handgun safety course. This course meets the handgun safety training requirements to obtain your Concealed Firearms Permit not only in the State of Maine, but in many other states as well. The NRA Basic Pistol course is also a prerequisite to take the NRA Personal Protection in the Home course.

This course includes both indoor classroom and outdoor range time. Students will learn to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, as well as the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; maintenance; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

All course materials including targets will be provided. A firearm can also be loaned to you for your use during range exercises if needed. Ammunition is extra.

The course will be instructed by NRA Certified Instructors Brett Varnum and Kevin Levesque.

Date: Saturday, June 26th from 9:00 am to approximately 5:00 pm

Location:

Presque Isle Quest Center, range exercises will be completed at the Fort Fairfield Rifle and Pistol Club

Cost:

$50 per participant

What you need to bring:

Eye and ear protection
Your handgun (please leave in your vehicle – for range use only)
100-200 rounds of ammunition
Lunch or money to buy lunch
Snacks or drinks
Appropriate clothing for the outdoor range session
A good attitude and a willingness to learn

Hanbo / Bo Staff Seminar on January 30th, 2010

On Saturday, January 30th, the Presque Isle Quest Center will be hosting a training seminar featuring Hombu Shihan Brett “Dotoshi” Varnum. Mr. Varnum will be presenting techniques in both hanbojutsu and bojutsu from a variety of sources, and I’m sure as usual there will be plenty of surprises. There will be a full seven hours of training available for both days. All ages and ranks are welcome!

Schedule:

Saturday, January 30th from 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM presenting Hanbojutsu
Sunday, January 31st from 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM presenting Bojutsu

Location:

This seminar will be held at Mr. Varnum’s dojo, the Presque Isle Quest Center, located at 263 Caribou Road, Presque Isle, Maine.

Cost:

Seminar fees are $40 per individual day, $75 for the entire weekend. There are an extremely limited number of participant slots available, so please register early by either emailing info@presqueislequest.com or call (207) 764-0864.

Mr. Varnum will be available for private lessons Friday afternoon, as well as Saturday and Sunday. Please contact info@presqueislequest.com for scheduling in advance.

Welcoming 2010 With a Few Changes

2010 is bringing a big change to the youth program at the Presque Isle Quest Center that we’re excited about! We’re moving classes from Thursday evening to Saturdays at 1:00.

If your weekly schedule has been a bit to hectic to join us after your work / school day, then hopefully we’ve removed a barrier for you to come join us!

February Update – New Children’s Martial Arts Program

Starting February 5th, 2009, the Presque Isle Quest Center is proud to announce that we will be beginning our all new Children’s Martial Arts Program. These classes will be held on Thursdays beginning at 5:30 PM. Our To-Shin Do instructors are known for their energetic and engaging methods to build your child’s self-esteem, focus, respect, self-discipline and physical fitness. No pre-registration is required.
